XYBA Podcast Ep 02

Here is our 2nd episode of XYBA Podcast. This time it is the full crew with Andy, Charlie, Eric, Grant, and Josh along with guest Jeff Kazbek from Bleeding Sky Studios. Jeff helps situate the mics, so the audio is a little bit better. We definitely need more mics. We cover the news (read by Andy with rebuttals), why Jeff hates Blazing Angels on PS3, Eric's grandma destroying him at Wii Bowling, World of Warcraft and the Burning Crusades, GTA Monsters video game idea, our first Gears of War tournament, Grants claim that Unreal 3 will be a highly anticipated game, Charlie picking an opening song that isn't a song at all, and much more. Enjoy and let us know what you think and what you would like to hear about.

My reasoning about the Wii not being "Next Gen" is because it's lack of HD. Is it 7th gen like the 360 and PS3? Yes. Is it "Next Gen"? IMO, no it isn't. And that is because it does not have HD output.

To me, "Next Gen" is the future. The future is HD, it isn't SD or ED, it is HD. You are correct that there are not a lot of people owning an HD television right now, however, HD tv ownership will only increase with the falling prices of LCD, Plasma and other HD televisions. And what will those people play with their 1080p tv's? A 640x480 Wii game or a 1080p 360 game?

Don't get me wrong, I would rather buy a Wii right now rather than a PS3 or a 360 for three reasons. I don't have an HD tv, I don't can't spend 400 bucks on a system (especially when the PC has better titles and graphics than either one), and I'm really intrigued by the controller. Could I hook up a 360 or PS3 to my widescreen LCD computer monitor, yes. But I want to play console games in the living room on the tv.

In short, people, the "Next Gen" console isn't one that we will use today it is the one we will use in 2 years or 3 years when the market share of HD TV's is going to skyrocket and the Wii is going to look shitty compared to the greatness of 1080p.

You talking about the next generation. But this generation is called Next Gen. By your reasoning, even the 360 and PS3 aren't Next Gen because they are available now and not the future.

How are you backing up your statement? Where does it say that Next Gen means the seventh generation? Can you prove that the term "Next Gen" was not used previously? The 360 and the PS3 are ,IMO, "Next Gen" because they are the present and the future. The future because more and more people will be buying them to play on their new HD TVs.

BTW, I believe the movie Jeff was referring to was A Sound of Thunder which was based off of a Ray Bradbury story.
