EA has announced that Mass Effect 2 will come to the PS3 January 2011.

No word yet if any of the DLC already available for the Xbox 360/PC version will be included or available to the PS3 as well.

My PS3 Experience

Okay, so I finally got a PS3 a few weeks ago(I had planned on getting one when inFamous came out). I've been playing it since then - first Uncharted and then inFamous(I'm doing my second playthrough on evil). Overall, I enjoy it. Here are some of the things I've seen and you can tell me if I'm right or missing something.

First, the graphics and sound are great. Which was expected.

Other than a small adjustment to the different controller(I kept pressing the square when it told me to press X and the bumpers/triggers took an adjustment), the gameplay has been smooth. The controllers are smaller and lighter than the Xbox 360's. Although the recharge cord that comes with the controller is pretty freaking short. What's up with that?

I like having a system that's been out for a while. There are a lot of games I can pick up for fairly cheap.

The Blu-Ray player is nice. Of course, I don't plan on replacing my DVD collection or even buying a lot of Blu-Ray DVDs, but it's good to have.

The Wi-Fi connection is great. I haven't noticed any lag (although I've only played the Uncharted 2 beta multiplayer). And not paying for PSN is wonderful.

Things I don't like or am misunderstanding:

Not all games(especially older ones) have trophies. That's disappointing. I know some trophies were added in for some games later(like Uncharted) but other games still have no trophies (like Haze).

Playstation Home seems boring. What am I doing? Just running around, looking at things?

My PS3 didn't come with a headset so if I want to actually talk to anyone on PSN I need to buy a headset.

The Playstation website is horrible compared to xbox.com. I can't look at my friends' trophies or send them an instant message. Navigation on the site is not as quick or simple.

Overall, I like the PS3. However, I will be sticking mainly with the 360. I mean, my gamerscore on the 360 is ridiculous. And I have a lot more friends on Xbox Live. But I'll stick use the PS3 for some sweet PS3 exclusives.

Mercenaries 2 DLC Coming Tuesday

EA and Pandemic Studios are releasing a DLC pack for Mercenaries 2 on December 16th. One great thing about this content? It's free for the month of December!

The Blow It Up Again content pack contains four additional game modes and a few "patriotic characters."

I'm not exactly sure what the patriotic characters, but I'm definitely downloading this. Of course, it's free. But it will also motivate me to finally beat the game. I had a lot of fun when I first got the game but then got distracted by some other games...

Update: Apparently, this DLC is already live on the Playstation Network so if you have Mercenaries 2 on your PS3, go ahead and get to downloading!

Rumor: L.A. Noire to the Xbox 360?

When L.A. Noire was first announced in 2004, it was announced as an exclusive game for the PS3. But more and more rumors have surfaced this year that the game will also be coming to the Xbox 360. The newest information seems to give this rumor validity.

The president of the Game Developers’ Association of Australia, Tom Crago, mentioned at CG Asia 2008 that the game would be released on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. This is the closest to an official statement so far. The website for the game continues to state that the platform is "to be announced."

L.A. Noire takes place in the late 1940's Los Angeles landscape and players will be required to solve a series of murders in a sandbox styled detective game. The game is styled after the film noir genre of movies and is in black and white. The release date is 2009.

Fallout 3, Now With Over 500 Endings...

That's the word from a recent interview with Bethesda's Peter Hines. There are over 500 different variations at the end of the game.

Now, sadly most of my so-called "gamer" friends have never played Fallout or Fallout 2 so they might not understand what this means. Does this mean there are over 500 individual endings? No. There are variations.

See, in Fallout and Fallout 2, at the end of the main quest, they do a little ending. In this ending, they tell you what happens to the various factions, groups and settlements in the game. Some of them are destroyed, some prosper. It all all depends on how your character interacted within that group or if you encountered them at all. In the first two, I believe there could have been as many as four endings for each faction(and some only had two) and I wouldn't say there were more than ten factions(the Brotherhood, Enclave, various towns, etc.) so 500 is still an impressive number.

I'm also enjoying all the Fallout 3 information that is pouring out. Bethesda actually did their reporter previews right. They let them play the game for 30 minutes. They don't force them to go on any particular quests or anything. Most of the articles I read the reporters simply head out into the wastelands and start exploring. Since it's a totally open world, you get a lot of different things from the different reporters. Good job, Bethesda! I've been looking forward to this game for a long time.

New COD4 Playlists May Be Delayed

Infinity Ward has been hard at work on four new playlists for Call of Duty 4. They were hoping to release them upon the masses this weekend, but some critical bugs are possibly pushing their release back a bit. No concrete release date has yet been set.

The new playlists are:

- Bare-bones Team Deathmatch - Team Deathmatch with no perks and no rewards. Just you and your skills.

- Hardcore FFA - Free-for-all with increased damage, no HUD and no health regen.

- Hardcore HQ - HQ with increased damage, no HUD and friendly fire is on.

- Multi-bomb Search and Destroy - Every attacking team member has a bomb so anyone (or everyone) can plant the bomb.

PS3 Launches Greatest Hits

Today announced the start of Sony's Greatest Hits lineup for the Playstation 3. The collection currently has ten games in it which will retail for $29.99 each.

The Greatest Hits games will be in red cases like this one. The games in the series are Resistance: Fall of Man, WarHawk, Motorstorm, Call of Duty 3, Fight Night: Round 3, Need for Speed Carbon, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Assassin's Creed, Oblivion, and Ninja Gaiden: Sigma.

Sony has said that the Greatest Hits version of Warhawk does not include a headset, but that the regular version with the headset should soon see a price reduction to $49.95.

Watchmen Coming to Gaming

With the growing buzz of the upcoming movie Watchmen(a trailer before The Dark Knight tends to do that) comes news of a Watchmen game. The game will be episodic, downloadable and available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Deadline Games will make this third person game which will have a co-op option.

The Watchmen game will be a prequel to the movie and take place in the times before costumed adventurers were outlawed in the Watchmen world. It will also take place only at night. Players will play either Nite Owl or Rorschach. Hurm. They will play as the team in their earlier days of crime fighting, back when they were younger and more fit.



The game is expected to receive an M rating. Rorschach will be a street fighter who will use anything and everything in a fight. Nite Owl will use more finesse, martial arts and electronics. There will also be puzzles for players to overcome.

The game will be released in episodes and will be released around the time of the movie's release(March 2009).

I must say, I just read the Watchmen graphic novel in the last month, and it's definitely a lot different than any other super hero world. I look forward to it.

Unreal III Will Have Dedicated Servers

Epic has announced that Unreal Tournament III will have dedicated servers for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Unreal Tournament III will release in North America July 7th.

I like this. Dedicated servers are great. I think this might be the first game for the Xbox 360 that will actually have their own dedicated servers.
