Why the 360 Needs a Required Harddrive

Rockstar Veep Dan Houser told the Official Playstation Mag that the Xbox 360s without harddrives is creating limitians and challenges for GTAIV. Thank god a developer is saying this. I don't know how many times Chuck and I have had this conversation at lunch that Xbox made a big mistake by offering a sku that didn't come with a harddrive.

Will Rockstar dumb down GTAIV to make it easier for consumers who don't want to buy the harddrive? Only if they want to see a shelf full of GTAIV at local stores.

shelf full? you have way to much faith in people to not buy whatever is thrown at them with the "gta" or "halo" or "mario" if it's not as good as it could be. shit's going to sell like hot cakes at a hot cake eating convention where the world's best hotcakes are half-price.

rereading your post makes me even more angry. it's not rockstar's fault that stupid microsoft came out with 2 sku's. Now to make their game available to more people they have to dumb it down so that people without the hard drive can enjoy it. no good business model says create the best thing you can that only a few people can enjoy. bad for the economy so it's bad for America and therefore bad for everyone. blaming rockstar for the big "M"'s stupidity is not fair. just like nintendo is going to be screwing themselves in the long run for not having a hard drive.

Did you even read my post? I'm pissed at M$ for making 2 skus. I don't blame Rockstar. I feel sorry for Rockstar for having to sacrifice their game to meet the lowest denominator for a console that boast they have great graphics and can handle a lot of processes.

The Wii is in a different boat. A game maker knows what they are getting into with the Wii and so they build for the entire Wii audience. M$ screwed up with 2 skus, where one makes gaming a lot better and the other lessens the experience.

I did read your post...

Sounds a lot like a knock on rockstar for choosing to make less of a game to make it available to more people.

Just before that statement it reads, "Xbox made a big mistake by offering a sku that didn't come with a harddrive." It is lame that a developer has to succumb to lowering it's original vision for a game in order to sell it's product to a lower installed base. I see his initial point. There are far more people with a premium system than a core system. It seems to me that the PS3 might just get a better version as far as loading times are related because every single PS3 has a hard drive. Not to mention whatever else Rockstar could include because of the preinstalled hard drive. I didnt read the original story from Rockstar so Im not sure what sacrifices are being made because lack of a hard drive for the core system on 360.
