While Gygax primarily dealt with pen and paper games and tabletop games, his contributions are very important to the video game industry as well. Without Gygax's many contributions to the roleplaying genre, there's no telling what kinds, if any, of "RPG" games would be available for video games today.
Gary Gygax was one of the co-creators of Dungeons and Dragons. He is often considered the "father of roleplaying games." And he died of a heart attack at home this morning at the age of 69.
